Works
These relief paintings are handmade and built from layered forms of plaster, which creates a tactile sense of depth. As the sun moves, changing light and shifting shadows transform the piece throughout the day, constantly revealing new perspectives. Each artwork is finished with a wooden frame and a protective varnish.
Inspired by architectural reliefs, the works explore space, light and memory. In memory of my beloved father, each piece is named after a song we shared.

Joosje Struwer is an Amsterdam-based artist, art teacher and architectural designer, born in 1994. Her multidisciplinary practice is shaped by her background in architecture, interior design and visual arts.
Study history
After graduating at the Academy of Visual Arts Maastricht in 2017, she returned to Amsterdam to study at the Breitner Academy, where she graduated as a first-degree art teacher in 2019.
